This week 200,000 spectators are travelling to our beautiful North Coast of Northern Ireland to watch the famous Open Championship at Royal Portrush golf course. 600 million TV viewers are also expected to watch the competition on TV and be presented some breath-taking pictures of the Causeway Coast.
In the past few days we’ve already heard in the media from international golfers and spectators admiring the beauty of the natural surroundings located only 6 miles from our church building. In the bible, in the book of Isaiah we read that God created the world for us to inhabit and to recognise and know Him as our creator and Lord.
For this is what the Lord says—
he who created the heavens,
he is God;
he who fashioned and made the earth,
he founded it;
he did not create it to be empty,
but formed it to be inhabited—
he says: “I am the Lord,
and there is no other.
I have not spoken in secret,
from somewhere in a land of darkness;
I have not said to Jacob’s descendants,
‘Seek me in vain.’
I, the Lord, speak the truth;
I declare what is right. Isaiah 45:18-19 (NIV)
In these verses we read that God communicates His truth to us through the beauty of our surroundings and in the words He speaks to us in the bible. The truth God declares is that there is no God apart from Him and for the inhabitants of the earth to know God in relationship, they must turn to Him to seek forgiveness and be saved.
“Turn to me and be saved,
All you ends of the earth;
For I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:22 (NIV)
In the book of John’s gospel in the New Testament Jesus of Nazareth declares Himself as the Way, the Truth and the Life; the one and only way a person can be saved and have a relationship with God. John notes at the end of his gospel letter his purpose of writing; that the reader would believe in Jesus, the Son of God and receive the gift of new life in Him:
“But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” John 20:31 (NIV)
